Hi from our student leaders

Hi everyone! It’s Vicky, Lola and Hailey.

This week’s school value has been empathy and the teachers have been looking out for students showing empathetic gestures in the yard and classrooms. We should all be empathetic!

Last week on Friday, we had Sonya Kilkenny come to our assembly to present the Kindness award to Ngairo Leutier. Congratulations Ngairo, your kindness doesn’t go unnoticed!! What a very special award to get in front of your family and peers

Tomorrow we have sushi day as well as World Teacher day so in the morning, be sure to thank your teachers for all the amazing work they do, in and out of the classroom. Maybe you could even make them a card tonight? Our school would not run without them.

Halloween is on this on Saturday, be ready to wear your spookiest costumes as you creep down the streets hunting for lollies.  But remember to say thanks and show good manners!! After Halloween, we’ve also got another 4 day weekend coming up on Monday, the curriculum day, and Tuesday, the Melbourne Cup! Stay safe and have fun

Don’t forget that the Colour Run is coming up in a few weeks. If you haven’t already made an account, then hop online and do so! If you’ve already registered, then make sure to keep raising money! All of the funds will be put into making a brand new Senior Playground for the 3-6 students. We are really needy this, our current one is so ryn down!

Thanks for reading, and have a great long weekend!!

Wellbeing

Why Attendance Matters

School is compulsory for children aged 6 to 17 in Victoria, unless an approved Department of Education and Training Victoria exemption has been granted.

Going to school every day is an important part of your child’s education. Children and young people learn new things at school every day, connect with friends and develop good habits that help them to succeed now and in later years.

Attending and participating in school regularly will help your child:

  • Develop important skills and knowledge to help them learn.
  • Develop social and emotional skills such as good communication, resilience and team-work.
  • Establish friendships with peers which help develop self-esteem and a sense of belonging.

There is no good number of days for missing school! We can HELP, ask for help to get your child to school on time every day.

What If My Child Can’t Attend School?

As a parent or carer, you play an important role in ensuring your child attends school every day. If your child is unable to attend, please provide the school with an explanation for their absence.

Our commitment to regular attendance is about much more than meeting requirements or keeping records up to date. It is about supporting your child to succeed. Every day at school provides valuable opportunities for learning, building friendships, developing confidence, and strengthening their overall wellbeing. Consistent attendance helps children feel connected, engaged, and part of our school community, creating the foundations they need to thrive both academically and socially.

An easy to read book to help understand attendance.

BINGO Success

A Huge Thank You to Our Parent Fundraising Group and School Community!

What an amazing night we shared at Roy Dore Reserve on Saturday for our Bogan Bingo Fundraiser!

A heartfelt thank you goes to our incredible Parent Fundraising Group. Kylie, Amanda, Eleanor, Hannah, Steph, Morgan, Emma and Chelsea for the countless hours of work that went into making the event such a success. From sourcing donations and prizes to organising decorations, coordinating volunteers, selling tickets, and managing all the behind-the-scenes details, their dedication and commitment were truly outstanding. Events like these simply would not be possible without the generosity, enthusiasm, and hard work of our fundraising team.

The evening was filled with plenty of laughs and memorable bogan antics. Guests enjoyed air guitar competitions, singing, games, raffles, the ever-popular coin toss, mystery envelopes, and of course, several entertaining rounds of bingo. The dance floor was buzzing at the end of the night, while the bar kept everyone refreshed as the celebrations continued.

Most importantly, it was wonderful to see so many members of our school community come together to support our fundraising efforts. Seeing families, friends, staff, and community members enjoying themselves and connecting with one another was a reminder of just how special our school community is.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, sponsored, or supported the event in any way.
Your contribution helped make the evening a fantastic success, and we are incredibly grateful for your ongoing support. Together, we continue to make a difference for our students and school.

We look forward to sharing the funds raised and the impact they will have on future projects for our students. Thank you for helping make Bogan Bingo 2026 a night to remember!

A SPOOKY Kitchen fortnight

Our first day of Halloween cooking started with a VERY special visitor… Ben Carroll, Premier of Victoria!

He popped in to see what our amazing Year 3/4 students were cooking. When he asked, “So, what are you making today?” the students proudly answered…

“EYEBALL SNOT DRINK!!!”  You can imagine the laughter!

Then came the next question: “Are you all going trick-or-treating for Halloween?”

EVERY. SINGLE. HAND. WENT. UP!

Well… when the teacher is fully into Halloween and brings the whole class along for the spooky ride, what else can you expect?

From eyeball snot drinks to pastry snakes, Jack-o’-lantern stuffed capsicums and roasted pumpkin fresh pasta bake, our kitchen was full of creativity, laughter and a little bit of delicious madness!

Spooky food, happy students and memories made at Carrum PS!

I think we can safely say… this Halloween is going to be a scream!

Enjoy the weekend and remember to brush those fangs well!!

From the office

Thunderstorm Asthma-be prepared this pollen season

Grass pollen season in Victoria usually runs from October to December. During this time, asthma and havfever sympoms can get worse. There is also an increased risk of thunderstorm asthma

https://www.nationalasthma.org.au/resources/thunderstorm-asthma

https://asthma.org.au/triggers/thunderstorm-asthma/

Our school office has been VERY busy with students with hayfever, other than a cold ice pack there is not much we can do, other than provide TLC. If your child needs Zyrtec on site please see the office staff. An ASCIA Action Plan for Allergic Reactions (Green Plan) might be needed, depending on allergies. It is the responsibility of parents or carers to provide a copy of their child’s plan to the school.

Victorian schools follow strict Department of Education guidelines for managing students who need allergy and medication support.  Schools and parents develop an Individual Allergic Reactions Risk Management Plan covering prevention, communication, and emergency procedures
