Hi, this is Ivy and Austin, your school captains for 2026. 

Wow this term has flown by so fast. We cannot believe that we are just a day away from the July school holidays. Lets recap what has happened these last few weeks.  

This term the preps have had a police and fire brigade visit, they walked to our local kindergarten and child care and have been doing fun activities getting to know their year 6 buddies. 

The 1/2s had an ‘into the future’ incursion, moving around to different activities, like VR headsets and making robots move. They also learnt about the past and did high-tea where they had scones and cream, how lucky!

The 3/4s have been working hard on their Inquiry project of convincing people to move into a state in Australia that they have been researching about, especially warmer states than ours. The 3 to 6s had an incursion where the police came in and talked to us about being safe online and how to deal with problems people are having online and being safe in our community and wearing helmets.

The 5/6s had camp earlier this term at the Briars. This week they are showcasing their Adapt, Survive and Thrive projects to parents that they have worked hard on. The 5/6s also had Lighting Prem sports last week and everyone did such a great job representing our school. The grade 5s also went to have a look atPatterson Lakes secondary college. 

Just a few reminders try to send your kid to school with no plastic rubbish in lunch boxes as we are trying to keep pur school super clean. No need for hats still. Please remember we have SO much lost property in the green bins inside the gallery so have a look before the end of term.

Also that the first Monday back is a curriculum day so no school on that day, enjoy an extended holiday! 

We hope you have a great break and we can’t wait to see you back in term 3. But, before we go we have to finish with our joke of the week:

5/6 Inquiry 

In 5/6  we have been doing Adapt, Survive, and Thrive. We have all chosen one animal to research and adapt to a new environment.  

Our Favourite Part

Our favourite part of this whole adventure, is that we got to make our projects for a full school day (which is a full 5 hours!). In that school day we made two dioramas and one big, great trifold. We were so lucky that Mrs Blane brought clay to make the new adapted animals and she also provided the cardboard that we used. Some other things that people enjoyed are making their new animals, not only creating their posters but decorating them too. I can surely tell you that the teacher’s favourite part of this whole unit was watching all the kids, not only being creative but having fun at the same time!

What Did The 5/6 Classes Do For Inquiry? 

In 5/6 for Inquiry we have been learning about different animals and their adaptations. The adaptations we have been learning about are structural, behavioural and physiological. We had to choose one animal and adapt it to a new environment. Before we could make up the animal we had to research some other animals that live there and their adaptations. For example I chose the Dingo and I had to move it to the Pacific ocean which was very challenging! My favourite part about the project was creating and making our adapted animal, I created a diorama!

What did the 5/6 ‘s do for inquiry?

In 5/6 for inquiry, we have been doing a unit called Adapt, Survive, and Thrive, and it is about animals. We have all chosen an animal that we are interested in, and researched everything about it. The 5/6‘s then chose a new habitat to put our animal in. We had to then research all the animals that live in that new habitat. We gave our animal some of the adaptations that those animals had, to help our animal survive. We gave the animal some structural, behavioral and physiological adaptations, so we had then created a new animal. The 5/6‘s spent a whole day on Monday, creating beautiful projects to showcase for you on Thursday after lunch at 2:10!  We made trifolds, posters, diaramas, clay models and all kinds of things that presented our original animal, its new habitat and all the adaptations we gave it.

What was my favourite part? 

My favourite part of this unit was definitely creating my project. I made a trifold, and two clay models. I loved how fun it was, and that I could use my creativity during this exciting project.

What did I learn?

I learned a lot! I now know all about what adaptations are, and that there are structural, behavioral and physiological adaptations. Structural adaptations are things on the outside of an animal that help them survive in their habitat. Behavioral adaptations are things they choose to do, and physiological adaptations are things that are on the inside. I also learnt everything about the Hippopotamus, which was my original animal, and I am now very knowledgeable on animals. This was definitely one of my favourite inquiry units!

Breakfast Club Recap

This Term in Breakfast Club we have introduced toast and spreads and we have had Sandra making porridge too.

We have had some new year 5 helpers join, Kai, Ellie and Imi and they have really taken on the responsibility of serving, setting up and cleaning. Marlow, Austin, Grace and Luke have stayed on since the beginning, Grace now has new adventures on a Wednesday morning. We also thank Amanda and Sailor for helping. 

If you would like to help at all please see Mrs Riley. We could also do another day if we have community helpers or grandparents etc.

Breakfast club is on the 3 / 4 deck area and toast is inside the gallery, we start before 8.30 and need to pack up by 8.50am.

If you haven’t been before please come and try, also if you wake up late or haven't had breakfast come for a feed. We have a variety of fruit and cereal. We also get the oranges ready for class on a Wednesday!

There is plenty of food available. We know it will be cold in Term 3 but still come in all weather conditions. We hope to see you next Term for some yummy breakfast.
