Hi Carrum Families,
It is amazing how quickly the term has flown by. Next week is the last week of term and there is a lot happening. Our teachers have almost completed the Semester 1 Reports, and they will be shared with families via Compass on Monday afternoon. The reports will contain an overview of what has been taught in each subject area and student progress against the Victorian Curriculum. Teachers will be holding Parent/Teacher Interviews either on Wednesday 24th June or Wednesday 22nd July (3/4 A & D). Parents can book an interview by logging on to Compass.
Also on Wednesday 24th June, we are looking forward to having the Patterson River Secondary College Year 8 Band play for the students. This will happen after lunch while the Parent/Teacher interviews are being conducted in the classrooms. This should be a lot of fun for the students and a good chance for the PRSC students to practice prior performing in front of an audience.
Just a reminder to families that we are currently taking enrolment for Prep in 2027. As previously communicated, the enrolment process this year is completed via the Vic Students Portal- https://students.educationapps.vic.gov.au/s/. Information relating to the new enrolment process is on our website at- https://www.carrumps.vic.edu.au/page/3/Enrolment. As with previous years I can confirm that we will be accepting all enrolments from families of students living within our zone and from siblings of students currently enrolled at the school. For out of zone enrolments, we will endeavour to work through this process once enrolments close at the end of July and let families know if we have capacity to accommodate their application as soon as possible.
For families still wanting their child to attend a Step Into Prep Session, please book (https://compasstix.com/e/tzitcaa7cu) into the final session that will be held on the 22nd July at 9:15-10am. This session is open to all kinder students regardless of if they live in the Carrum Primary School Zone.
Finally, tomorrow our Grade 5/6 students will be participating in the Winter Lightning Premiership. We wish them all the best as they compete against the other schools in our district. Given that this event will take most of the school day, we will not be holding CKR or assembly this week. Please be aware that next Friday 26th June is the last day of term. Therefore, we will be holding our assembly at 2pm as school will finish at 2:30pm.
Thank you for your ongoing support and I hope you have a great weekend.
Kind regards,
Clem Langford

Words from the kitchen
What a wonderful way to finish Term 2!
This week, our young cooks will be preparing a delicious menu of Apple Cake, Masala Frittata, and Sri Lankan Rolls. Along the way, we will be talking, smelling, tasting, and exploring different types of vinegar, learning where they come from and how they can change the flavour of our food.
As I reflect on the term, I am incredibly proud of everything our students have achieved in the kitchen. They have grown in confidence, developed new skills, shown curiosity, and embraced the joy of cooking and sharing food together.
A very special thank you goes to our beautiful volunteers. Your generosity, encouragement, patience, and friendship make our kitchen such a welcoming place. I truly appreciate each and every one of you. The warmth, laughter, and support you bring make the kitchen feel like a second home, and I am so grateful to share this journey with you.
Thank you for helping create such a caring and inspiring community where our students can learn, grow, and thrive.
Wishing everyone a restful and enjoyable break, and I look forward to cooking together again in Term 3.
With gratitude,
Sandra

Recipes we used in the kitchen

Alex
We learnt about the olden days, how they wrote and what they played. TVs were not the same and they had no colour they were black and white. You couldn’t get packages from Amazon!
Conrad
We dressed up like were from the olden days. We used pretend black boards and chalk-they didn’t have tablet drawing apps like I do now back in the early 1700s-maybe 1900s.
Jasmine
Last Thursday we had a tea party, we had scones and water in fancy tea cups and you had to hold your little pinky up.
Poppy
I really like the different inside activities and outside was fun, we played croquet and hopscotch.
Thanks to our teachers for planning such interactive experiences!

TeamKids has another exciting school holiday program planned this winter!

International Day of Play is a time to celebrate the power of play. It’s a time to raise awareness about how central play is to every child’s development and well-being. And it’s a time when we can come together to make sure that every child is able to fulfil their right to play.
The theme for this year’s International Day of Play is “Protect play, protect childhood”. The theme is a reminder for all of us – schools and families – that happy and healthy childhoods are built on play.

The evidence suggests that the implementation of BSEM develops a learning culture, the integration of trauma-informed practices into instructional practice; including a non-punitive system of behavioural management; creation of an orderly environment for learning; and an increase in positive student attitudes to school both for learning and wellbeing.

I am offering an introductory half price lesson to all new students who wish to develop their musical skills. Certified exams also offered. I am a fully qualified teacher who has extensive experience in teaching all ages and levels.
