Welcome to week 4 from your JSC

Hi Carrum Primary families and students

Welcome to your week 4 newsletter

This is Maggie, Steeli and Mabel

We are here to fill in for the 5 /6 school captains while they are  at the Brias camp. We hope they have a great time and have so much fun and get some sleep!

This week has been cold but warm at the same time, not like last week, we had a bit of rain. Luckily it didn't stop the coffee van from serving our mums some delicious coffee. We would like to thank Team Kids for providing fun craft activities and organising the amazing coffee van. We would also like to thank Sandra and the 3/4s for making incredible muffins. A huge thanks to the Mothers Day stall helpers for giving up their time to make gift buying a possibility.

This Friday we have students from Carrum going to the District cross country at Cornish College and we wish them luck.

Next Week its is Education Week and we have a multi aged day to celebrate, followed by a 3/4 dance at assembly, we hope you can make it.

On May 27th it is Reconciliation Week. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. We will have a day on June 2nd where we will wear yellow and fundraise to support Children’s Ground organisation and learn more about First Nations history and culture.

We hope you have a great weekend, we can't believe it is Week 5 next week.

From your year 4 junior school councillors Mabel,Maggie and Steeli.

BIG GREEN schools 2026

Carrum Primary hosted other schools and managed to stay dry! It was a day full of rain-great for the garden though.

BIG GREEN SCHOOLS CONFERENCE HOSTED AT CARRUM PRIMARY SCHOOL

Hi this is Meila and Ruby J

We were part of the big green school conference. The big green conference is when 13 different schools meet here and we show them all about our lovely biodiversity at our school. Everyone in the environment team gets the chance to run activities, be tour guides and teach other schools about our environmentally safe school. Some of our favourite activities were the yeast observation where we combined different amounts of yeast water and sugar together and monitored them, there was also the wetlands/seed bomb activity where together we mixed clay soil and seeds. The different students and teachers all took home a lump of this mixture to plant in their garden.

Chickens and goats was another fun activity where they got to feed our chickens and goats and inform everyone with some fun facts. This was all thanks to the organization of Ms Shew and Sandra we couldn’t have done it without them!

What's happening in PE

The P.E Program.....

It has been another fantastic term in Physical Education, with students across all year levels continuing to develop their skills, confidence, teamwork, and game understanding.

Our Prep students have been exploring overarm and underarm throwing, while also beginning to develop their catching skills through a variety of engaging activities and games.

Year 1 and 2 students have consolidated their overarm throwing techniques and are now beginning to explore ball bouncing and control using basketballs.

In Years 3 and 4, students have been learning key volleyball skills, game positions, and rules, and will soon begin participating in court invasion games to further consolidate their catching skills and develop strategies linked to game sense.

Meanwhile, our Year 5 and 6 students recently participated in an exciting volleyball tournament where they demonstrated excellent skill development, teamwork, scoring knowledge, and sportsmanship. They will next explore court invasion games and transfer their skills between European Handball and basketball, with a continued focus on teamwork, movement, and tactical awareness.

Meet our ES stars

I’m Janika, covering Reception duties in the absence of Rebecca Schefamn, for the month of May.

I enjoy working at Carrum Primary School with friendly and supportive staff, with smiles on faces always.

I have a daughter and husband in my family, I love animals and always care for abandoned pets. I have cared for 3 kittens recently which were abandoned by their mother cat and have become our family pets.

Art and craft and travelling are my main hobbies, however I love to play badminton with my family when I get time. The most recent place I visited with my family was sound Island in New Zealand, and I would like to go back again.

Sadly my last day of school will be on May 29th. I will miss you all and wish you all the best for your future endeavours.

We thank Janika for helping in our office and wish her all the best in her future work.

Christine

Hi everyone,

I’m Christine but most people call me Chris.

I have been part of the Carrum Primary School team for about about 3 years in the role of Education Support but my connection to the school runs much deeper.

Over the years, my four children all attended CPS for a combined total of 18 years making it a significant and special part of our lives.

Outside of my role, I’m a proud dog owner of two very cheeky Labradors, Maisy and Lucy.  They absolutely love playing at the beach and digging in the sand! When it comes to my personal favourites, chocolate is my weakness and I can’t start my day without a good cup of coffee.

In my free time, I enjoy catching up with friends, travel and hobbies such as ceramics, photography and dancing!

I feel very lucky to be part of the kind and inclusive community here at CPS.

Expo Day Success

Expo Day in 2026 was held on May 20th where we celebarted our specilaist subjects

EXPO DAY

This week on Wednesday we celebrated our specialist subjects by hosting Expo Day. Our students were mixed in multi age groups for the day and spent time in other classes.

In Art we launched our school concert theme- the elements, fire, water, earth and air. Children were invited to draw using pastels and a range of materials to decorate a square to represent the element. These squares will be used for a whole school art mural displayed in our Multi-Purpose Room. Please make sure you take a look.

For Steam the students had a group challenge to create the tallest towers with the ultimate winners. They brainstormed, planned, tested and improved. It was great ro see resilience and collaboration amongst the groups.

In Mandarin the students were invited to join in  with 3 different activities, the activity that groups were assigned to was calligraphy with ink and water, mask making and traditional paper cutting to create window flowers which looked incredible.

The afternoon got us outside, we were fortunate enough with the weather the rain just stopped just in time. The students enjoyed tabloid sports which included 8 rotations. Playing old school games like egg and spoon, hoops, frisbee, rock paper scissor race offs and more. It was great to see teamwork across the ages and lots of laughing and smiles.

We thank the specialist teachers for your detailed planning and our class teachers for engaging with all of the students, whilst having fun!

We conclude our week with a dance at assembly on Friday.

Enjoy the photos below

Hats

At Carrum Primary we follow the Sun Smart Policy, the months with the letter 'R' require a hat and the months with no letter 'R' hats are not required.

However if the UV is 3 or over we encourage our students to wear the air hats nd of course if they want to wear them all year round they are most welcome to

Now could be a good home to take them home for a wash.

Enrol for Prep 2027

Do you have a child starting Prep next year? The enrolments are now open but there is a diffferent process from last year.

This year, our school is using VicStudents, an online system for new enrolments in Victorian government schools.
VicStudents is available at select schools, for students who are enrolling in a Victorian government school for the first time. This includes Foundation (Prep) enrolments for 2027.

You can find information and resources about the timeline, including factsheets at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep).
