Hi, this is Ivy and Austin, your school captains for 2026.
This term has flown by so quickly! All of our preps have finished their first term being in primary school. We are all so proud of them. Just a reminder, keep sending your child to school with a hat till the end of April. (or on days when it’s expected to be warm too)
Let's recap this term.
Last week on Friday all the year 6s got paired up with their prep buddies. We are all so excited to have some fun and get to know our buddies. The 3/4s have done their last week of school swimming.
The year 5/6s have finished their gold rush inquiry project. Which we all had lots of fun doing. The 1/2s also finished their mini beast projects. We have also had our district swimming for 3 to 6s, also school athletics for 3 to 6s as well.
Year 5/6s had lightning prem. Where we played basketball, cricket, kickball and volleyball. Year 3-6 have been preparing for the senior cross country at Roydore and the junior cross country is staying at school.
Last week we had world math day and everyone had fun so much fun, we even had kinder kids come, thanks to Miss Kenner for organising and the JSC for helping.
We both have interviewed a student from each year level and asked them what their favourite part of term 1.
Austin chatted to Matthias, and Marly from 5/6 they said that they enjoyed the gold rush activity, athletics and carrum fore-shore.
Austin also spoke to some boys from 1/2. They said that they enjoyed publishing their texts,
Spelling sounds
Their inquiry project on weather
Also easter writing.
Ivy also spoke to Quinn from 3/4
She said that she really enjoyed specialists,
3/4 swimming and maths in her classroom.
Ivy spoke to Brooklyn from prep.
She said she enjoyed playing with her friends, learning with her nice teacher and getting a year 6 buddy.
Now before we finish here is an easter joke you can try on friends and family.
Q: Where does the Easter Bunny get his eggs?
A: From an Egg Plant.
We hope you have a great holiday and the easter bunny brings you lots of chocolate eggs. See you in term 2.

Year 5/6 Goldfields Unit of Inquiry
Our Year 5/6 Students hit the Goldfields this Term! During this hands-on, play based learning unit, students had to go fossicking, panning and mining for gold (yes we actually spray painted rocks gold, and hid them). If anyone was lucky enough to find gold, they had to trade it in at the Assayers office for the going rate of gold that week. Students also had to build shelter, create shops to sell items, buy food etc. Each week, the price of gold varied and the amount of gold on the Goldfields also changed, gold was becoming scarce and the price of mining licences were increasing. The unit culminated with a reenactment of the Eureka Stockade where students tore up their licences, recited the Eureka oath and raised the Eureka flag.
There was a notorious bushranger that was worth 500 pounds for capture, he is still on the loose. The gold price for licences went up which wasn't fair!- Kai C
I found 8 ounces of gold and I was very happy- Luke
I really liked how the unit gave us a chance to play the game in real life and discover how it felt for those people on the Goldfields- Ryan S
I don't like how the troopers can get reinforcements to help capture you when looking for gold- Archer
Gold was everywhere at the start, then by the end the gold was all gone!- Noah S
I couldn't find any gold, but one man was so rich, he threw money on the floor and everyone went wild over it- Grace

Friends of Carrum Foreshore
Some of the Year 5/6 students headed to Carrum to be part of the Friends of Carrum Foreshore program. We walked down to Carrum beach to help pick up rubbish and keep our shores clean. Along the way we found lots of rubbish (from small to large) and even a bin lid!
