Principals Message Term 2 Week 3

Hi Families,

We have had lots of events this week celebrating our amazing mum’s with Mother’s Day coming up on Sunday, it has been fantastic to have our Prep Mum’s in  to decorate cupcakes on Monday. The Prep teachers said it was great to see so many mums and the students had a ball. On Wednesday we held our Mother’s Day Stall. Thank you to Mrs Riley and all our parent volunteers who put this event together. The presents were again well thought out, and the students have had the opportunity to buy a gift for mum. Then finally, this morning we braved the weather, and with the support of TeamKids, we were able to offer our mums a free coffee. We hope all our Mums were able to come and visit the coffee van as well as get a cupcake made by Sandra our amazing Kitchen Garden expert. We really appreciate the support of our mums at Carrum Primary School and wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday.

Today we held our Big Green Conference. It was fantastic to welcome 13 schools from our local area to participate in our Kids Teaching Kids Conference. Our students did an amazing job as keynote speakers and leaders of a variety of workshops in the garden. After completing workshops in the farm, wetlands and kitchen the school teams planned out environmental projects that they will work on throughout the year at their schools. The school teams will then present the work they did at the second conference that will be held at St Louis de Montfort later in the year. Well done to Miss Shew and our 5/6 students on running another successful conference.

Next week our Grade 5/6 students will be heading off to the Briars Camp in Mt Martha. The children will be able to participate in an adventure camp while working as a team. These experiences help with the student’s developing self-confidence and independence. I know the students and staff are very much looking forward to it. I wanted to thank the parents that have volunteered to help at camp, we appreciate you giving up your time to support our teachers.

Well done to all our students who competed in the House Cross Country last week. The weather was amazing and the students were able to run some great times. Our Grade 3/4 student who qualified for the Division Cross Country will be competing next Friday at Cornish College. Due to Grade 5/6 camp next week, Ms Ami has organised that the student’s times from the House Cross Country be sent to the District Coordinator who will be using to decide which students qualify for the Division Cross Country later in the term. If you have any questions about this, please contact Ms Ami or myself at the school.

Please note, we will be holding an assembly this Friday 8th May at 2:40pm to finish the week. Students will be dismissed from their classrooms at the conclusion of the day. Please be aware that there will be no assembly next week due to Grade 5/6 Camp.

Finally, a big thank you to all our amazing Mum’s for the love and care you provide to your children. We hope you have a great Mother’s Day and get spoilt with presents and breakfast in bed!

Tidalick

Tiddalick the Frog: A Dreamtime Story Explored Through Drama and Storytelling
This interactive workshop used drama and storytelling to bring Tiddalick the Frog to life, offering a creative and respectful exploration of its meaning.
Students recreated the outback and re-enacted the story using costumes, music and drama. All students had two costume changes in the one hour session and were kookaburras, koalas, cockatoos, kangaroos, wombats, emus, frilled-necked lizards and eels.
