Principals Message Term 1 Week 9

Hi Families,

It has been a big couple of weeks at Carrum Primary School. When asking the students about their day they have shared the fun things they are learning about during inquiry this term. A highlight for our 5/6 students has been the Gold Rush topic. Students have loved learning about what it was like to be on the gold fields and the struggles the miners who have had to endure. I believe the students are still trying to find Captain Melville the bush ranger who stole some gold form some of the miners. It has been a very fun experience that the students have enjoyed.

Our Grade 3/4 Swimming Program at Waves Leisure Centre in Highett is now underway. The students did well in their first few sessions. We did have to swap the Tuesday session to Thursday this week, and students and staff managed this change well. Next week the program will run on Monday- Wednesday as previously communicated. We thank you for your continued support to help your child/ren with be organised each day with her swimming bag.

Another big event this week was the Summer Lightning Premiership. Our Grade 5/6 students competed against other schools in the district in Cricket, Kickball, Basketball and Volleyball. It was a big day and at the end we had some very tired students. The teachers said they were amazing in the way they competed and behaved and we are all very proud of them. Thank you to Ms Ami and the teachers for their coaching of the teams.

This Friday we are holding our World Maths Day activities. Students will be working in Prep-2 and Grade 3-6 groups on a variety of Maths based problem solving activities. Miss Kenner and the Numeracy PLT team have worked with the staff to come up with hands on activities for the students to participate in, this is a normal school uniform day, no dress ups! We are also looking forward to welcoming lots of Kinder students to the school on Friday who will be participating in the first of our early childhood education sessions. This session will provide students with a hands-on maths lesson, and an experience of what school is like at Carrum Primary School. Later in the year there will be other sessions available to pre-school students relating to literacy and wellbeing. Please keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for any upcoming events.

I do have some news to share in relation to Clare Bennett our Business Manager who has recently accepted the Business Manager role at Black Rock Primary School. Clare has been at Carrum Primary School for the past five years and has certainly run a tight ship in the office. We are very grateful for the work she has done in her time at CPS and wish her all the best for the future. Clare has shared that she will miss our community and has appreciated everyone's support during her time at our school. We do have a business manager role advertised and will endeavour to have someone appointed into the position by the beginning of Term 2.

I also wanted to share that Jess Loudon has taken maternity leave as she and her husband Scott prepare for the birth of their first child. We are very excited for them and know they will be amazing parents. We will let you know more when we hear baby news.

As we come to the end of term, we ask that parents and carers please log into Compass to update any unexplained absences. If you have any difficulty with this and require assistance, please contact the office. We thank you for continuing to update this information to ensure these records are accurate.

Looking ahead to next term we will have a parent information session on Thursday the 23rd of April at 3.30 relating to cyber safety and new rules around social media. This is an area that we need to work together on to best support our students to navigate their way through online communication and applications. More information including the links to access the session will be shared with families between now and the end of term.

We will be holding an assembly this Friday 27th March at 2:40pm to finish the week. This will be the last assembly of the term as next week the term finishes on Thursday 2nd April at 2:30pm (Due to the ‘Good Friday’ public holiday on Friday 3rd April). Students will be dismissed from their classrooms at the conclusion of the day.

Thank you again for your ongoing support.

Kind regards,

Clem Langford
Principal

Crazy Hair Day Success

There may have been rain but it didn't ruin the HAIR!

                          CRAZY and COLOURFUL Hair

The brief was silly, whacky, or creative and that was definitely achieved!

A big thanks to your families who went to so much effort for this years Crazy Hair Day event, from lights to gardens, to meals, drinks and animals and more in hair.
The ideas were outstanding and the topic of many morning circles was hair and how clever everyone is.

We appreciate your gold coins and are happy to announce we raised $316 which will go towards student technology, including chargers.

It was touch and go with the rain at drop off and many umbrellas were used, we also opened our doors early so paint wasnt dripping or balloons flying away.
Each class had trouble viting for the most creative or crazy styles but we have some standouts who we got some pics of to share with you all.

A special mention to Harper, Billie, Maeve and Scarlett, Eden and Violet, Emmie and Zara, Mimie and Steeli, Asha and Tiana, Shapi and Didi, Asher, Mason, Josh, Sam, Arlo and James, Emerson and Sailor, Romane and Imogen, Sassy and Neive, Violet and Sky, Ellie and Kelsey, LAkey and Eva, Dais G, Lexi and Maverick, Evie, Evie W, Evelyn Q and Ivy Q, Idianna and Hugo.
