Welcome to week 8 from our school captains

Hi Carrum students and families!

Welcome back everyone! It’s your school captains Ivy and James, we can’t believe this year has gone by so fast! It’s only a few more weeks until our year sixes graduate and go into high school. We have had a few exciting and fun things happening recently.

Our teachers would like to congratulate the lovely Miss Anderson, now Mrs Blane who was married last weekend.
She teaches our 3/4 class and takes students for tutoring.

Last week was our Colour Fun Run which was really cool to see everyone getting all coloured and having so much fun. We managed to raise over $32,000 and got to slime more teachers AND our principal!! Good job and a big thank you to everyone who donated!

We asked a few people in the yard what they enjoyed about the Fun Run.

“I enjoyed spraying people!” - Lizzy (1 / 2)

“I liked having fun with my friends.” - Jack (3 / 4)

“I liked getting prizes!” - Meila (5 / 6)

This week, the 3/4s are starting bike-ed! It’s really important to be safe on our bikes so please be careful when we are riding to, and from school. In a few weeks, the year sixes are going on the annual year six bike ride to Chelsea Bicentennial Park!

For the past couple of weeks, we have been having our Up Day! It’s been really exciting and nerve-wracking but it’s been fun! During Up Day, our year fives have presented their leadership speeches for next year. Good luck and good job to all!

Some of our year fours are running for marine ambassador this week! Good luck to everyone!

We have one of our Junior School Council representatives writing a little something about a visit from Sonya Kilkenny! Thank you Eden!

“Hi, I'm Eden and I'm here to talk to you all about Sonya Kilkenny's recent visit to the 5/6s. We are doing inquiry and our topic is Taking Action. I went around the yard and asked some year fives and year sixes about what they thought about it. Maliyah and Summer thought it was "Inspiring", Evelyn B thought it was “Interesting” and “Nice that Sonya cares about us’’. Shapi thought it was “Good”  and Lily A thought it was "Educational''

Thank you! From Eden.

Have a great weekend

From your school Captains,

Ivy and James.

In the garden this week

What the students are doing in garden this week

This week in the garden we have been cleaning up the space and getting it ready for the Big Green Conference. As well as sowing seeds into punnets to grow silver beet we have been fertilising the garden with borage tea-of course made by the students, borage tea, a natural fertiliser, can be made by steeping borage leaves and flowers in water, then diluting the resulting liquid with water before applying to plants. The girls said it was brown and smelly but the results can out weigh the smell.

We also fed the chickens some treats- garden plants or scraps and of course each week we take care and brush and our goat-when he is cooperating and not jumping up on the fence to say hi to visitors!

New play spaces

What do we think of our new playgrounds?

The Prep Playground (under construction)

An interview with Dottie and Jackson as they were looking at the playground so far-under construction!

Dottie-I like the green slide the most, it’s a double slide, we didn’t have a slide on our old one. The monkey bars look super tall but they will put a mat to make it safe to land.

Jackson- The spider web looks great, I like climbing when it’s wobbly so it would be fun to use. We can’t wait for it to be ready! I am good at landing off tall things and this playgrounds much bigger.

Year 1 and 2 playground now it’s finished.

We asked Daisy K and Lillah S what they thought a week into using this lovely space.

Daisy K- The new playground is better because there’s more to do. It has 2 slides in one and it’s connected. I like the speaker things you can talk into, you can speak to each other far away. I also like the 2 bars next to each other for flipping.

Lillah S- I love the way the monkey bars are smaller than our last playground, it’s easier for smaller people to use and ye year ones! The old one didn’t have that much stuff to do and this one does.

Our  Footy Day was the last day of term, September 19th.

We had a whole parade in the courtyard, fun games in mixed groups and a special delivered lunch.
Thanks to Mr V and our sports leaders for organising such a fun day to finish the Term 3.
