Welcome to week 10 from Cienna and Mason

Welcome to our week 10 Newsletter

Hi Carrum families,

We can't believe there is only one week left! How exciting, but also sad.
In our last few exciting weeks we have many things still to enjoy.

Last Thursday we had an open afternoon to showcase our learning, thanks to our families and other classes for visiting.

Last week our marine ambassadors were lucky enough to swim with some dolphins and see some seals and had a great day out.

We know the 1\2s enjoyed their mini beast incursion learning all about creatures and more.
Our school also had an environment day that Ruby in year 6 organised for the whole school with different activities and prizes. Thanks to the leaders that worked hard wih her on this day

For an end of year celebration the year 5\6s  and their teachers went to the gravity zone which was so much fun!

On Thursday we had an amazing Christmas concert and a big thank you to Miss Chivotti for all her hard work arranging that for us! The Christmas songs were spectactular!

Next Wednesday the year 6s also have their bike ride to Bicentennial park.

On Monday the 15th of December its' the grade 6 graduation which will be a sad but an exciting night for our year six parents and families.

It's so exciting that there is only one week left of school!! Soon the year sixes will be off to their high schools! How crazy is that? We know you will miss us!

This is also our last newsletter piece for the year, we hope you have enjoyed reading our front pages.

What's happening in Year 3/4

Lately in ¾, during Maths we have been learning column subtraction. We learn how to do column subtraction with internal zeros. We also have been learning how to measure things, people and estimating. Now moving on to Inquiry, we are learning about stories of our past , highwaymen and learning about the Aboriginal culture. Words such as Wominjeka (welcome), Urdlu (kangaroo) and so much more. We recently have been learning about the first fleet, they traveled for 8 months straight with people such as officers, sailors, soldiers and convicts who are kept in tight squishy cages. Now let’s get into Writing. In the past couple of weeks we have been writing persuasive texts, with the 5Es and in these texts there are exaggeration, rhetorical questions and emotive language!

Moving on to specialists, let’s start off with P.E. In P.E the last couple of weeks we have done multi sports. In multi sports there are soccer, basketball, netball and team tag that we all enjoy. Let's head over to Art, recently we have been doing some Australian bird drawings and a 3D sculpture. Ni hou, we are in Mandarin right now doing some of our best birthday invite cards and of course we are not sending these, it's just a fun project. We watched the magic paintbrush. It's an excellent video about a boy who had a dream of being a painter. “Action!” We are in STEAM now, making a stop motion of some dream time stories. Here are some Dreamtime stories…

  • How the Kookaburra got it’s laugh
  • The Wombat and Kangaroo
  • Rainbow serpent
  • How the Birds got it’s colours

Thankyou,

From Taylor and Eden (3/4D).

Let's keep Carrum Primary looking clean and tidy

Last week we worked together in our house groups to collect rubbush, most of the school was involved. We are trying to keep Carrum Primary a 5 star sustainable school and have it looking clean as well as looking after our environment.

We can all do our bit by making nude food lunchboxes and taking any rubbish home we bring.

Thanks for helping to keep our school looking clean, we can all do our bit to help.
