Week 2 from your captains

Newsletter

Good afternoon Carrum. This is Austin and Ivy, your school captains for 2026.
Welcome to week 2 term 4. Term 4 is a very exciting term.

First up we would like to congratulate Brodie Simpendorfer who came 1st in high jump at Division athletics and will go through to Regional in 2 weeeks.

We have our colour fun run on Thursday, 12th of November at 2:15pm. We can’t wait to see how much money we can raise for our school and have fun on the day.

Our year 6s have their last term of primary school this term. So towards the end of the year the year 6s will walk the red carpet to celebrate graduation. To have some fun the 5/6s will go on an excursion.

Just a few reminders for this term, you NEED to send your child to school with a hat or they will have to sit in the shade for recess and lunch and miss out on play. Recently we have had complaints about rubbish from OUR school flying into neighbours properties so for this reason we are asking for rubbish free lunch boxes, we call this ‘nude food’.

This week we have some students in 5/6 sharing their ballad’s Ryan along with Lucy and Ivy sharing their ballads as well. Also Grace made her own unfair game and some students have worked so well they got some time to choose a maths game and played tenzies.

A girl and her friend (Ivy 5/6D)

There once was a girl called summer,

She went to Carrum Primary School.

She loved shopping on shein,

And buying anything that was cool

She loved going to the beach

And listening to the waves.

She would watch sea gulls fly,

And explore nearby caves

But one week it all changed

She had to move away from a friend

She cried all night because of this news,

She acted like the world was coming to an end.

When Summer got to her new house nothing was the same

The walls were blue and the cupboards were a weird shape.

She opened her computer and turned it on.

Then she put in a tape.

 A tape of her friend.

Laughing at each other when they got something wrong.

Telling jokes to see who laughed first,

And finishing lyrics to a random song.

 But now Summers alone

With no friend to talk to

No late night chats

Now she has to find someone new

Bowie The Disappearing Dog

There once was a dog called Bowie

He was going on a walk with me

Then he disappeared

Nowhere we could see

We looked everywhere

But he was just gone

Then we looked somewhere

In the bushes

Then out came Bowie

When we found him

We through an epic

PARTY!

Growing Sunflowers

As part of our Stephanie Alexander program we have been planting sunflowers for wellbeing.

"Our students planted the sunflower seeds into soil and the tiny plants have been sprouting in the greenhouse and turned into bigger plants"

"Today we planted the seedlings in the grass along the fence at the side of the oval by digging up the grass, we added compost and mulch"

"We watered the plants and will continue to water them to help them grow"

From Tilly and Steeli in 3 / 4 E

Prep Learning

We have had a very busy couple of weeks in Prep!

The students have been working on their narrative writing skills. We are focusing on writing a story with characters, setting, problem, action and an ending. The teachers have been blown away with all the amazing ideas!

In Maths we have been learning about sharing. We had so much fun sharing the stickers into equal groups!

Prep Paradise playtime has a new rotation of activities. We have been getting creative making coral reefs out of playdough and coloured pasta. How brilliant do they look?

Junior Athletics Day P-2

Parents/carers/families, come and enjoy the fun and cheer on if you can.

It's that time of year again

Head Lice Season is Here Again!

As the weather warms up and children spend more time playing closely together, we often see an increase in cases of head lice. Head lice are a common part of school life and can affect anyone, regardless of hair type, cleanliness, or age.

We ask all families to regularly check their child's hair, especially during spring and summer when head lice are more prevalent. Early detection helps prevent the spread throughout classrooms and the wider school community.

What to look for:

  • Itchy scalp or frequent scratching
  • Live lice moving near the scalp
  • Eggs (nits) attached firmly to hair strands, often behind the ears or at the back of the neck

If head lice are found, please commence treatment promptly and continue checking all family members. Regular hair checks at home, particularly once a week, are the best way to manage and prevent outbreaks.

Here are some more advice and tips, facts and tips on treatment below:

Better Health Head lice

Thank you for your support in helping keep our school community healthy and comfortable for all students.

LOST Property

We have a very LARGE amount of lost property

Is your child missing a jumper, a lunch box a drink bottle or even a bike and scooter? If so please come and have a look before they get donated.

The Golden Rule: "If it has a name on it, it gets returned. If it doesn't have a name on it, it joins the permanent collection of orphaned hoodies."

"The school lost and found: where jumpers go to live a second, anonymous life, and kids claim they’ve never seen that jacket in their entire existence."

"I’ve lost a pencil, a lunchbox, my patience, and my mind—and I’m pretty sure the lost-and-found only has the pencil."

The scooters and bikes are at the end of the 3/4 gallery and the green bins are near the toilet door in the main gallery area.
