Carrum Primary hosts the BIG GREEN Schools Conference
On Thursday the 26th of June, Carrum Primary hosted the Big Green Schools Conference for 2025. We had 13 schools in attendance and over 90 students. This event showcases Carrum’s 5-star Sustainability program run by our year 5/6 students.
We began the day with the keynote presentations and kicked off with a fun eco quiz run by one of the students here at Carrum. During the day we had a two-hour rotation system involving activities with our wetlands, animals, gardens and many more. The other schools then got inspiration which they could incorporate in the golden chook brainstorm.
The golden chook is a competition where 3-8 students from each school were selected to be part of the group where all the ideas were born. Carrum’s idea incorporated an eco-made shredder to help feed our worms, break down compost and to reuse our excess paper. In September we will have part two hosted at Patterson Lakes Primary where schools will present their final product and will be judged by a group of students and they will hopefully bring home the golden chook trophy.
Thanks for Reading
